| Fact: Heading downhill or down gullies can lead to thicker bush and dense terrain, it is safer to stay where you are. |
The goals of Hug a Tree and Survive are to teach children the following safety lessons:
- Children should always tell an adult where they are going.
- If lost, the best move to is to "hug a tree" and stay put.
- Keeping warm and dry is important.
- Lost children can help their searchers by answering their calls.
- Carrying a garbage bag and whistle will help keep a child dry and alert.
