The Surrey Search and Rescue Team is a registered non-profit society devoted to assisting in the recovery of missing persons primarily in South West British Columbia, in all conditions and in all types of weather. The collection and distribution of information concerning emergency preparedness in the event of natural disasters is also one of our functions.

2004 Certificates of Achievement awarded

Don Burgess and Don Bindon were honoured for their outstanding contributions to Canadian search and rescue efforts with 2004 Certificates of Achievement. Congratulations to both for all their hard work and dedication!

New Command Unit now in service

7 July Surrey SAR members were called out to search for a female reported missing in the area of 96th Avenue.

27 June Surrey responded to assist with the rescue of an ill climber from Coleman Glacier on Mount Baker USA. Volunteers with Mountain Rescue training were requested to assist with carrying the person off of the mountain by stretcher as weather conditions prohibited the use of air resources.

6 June 3 Surrey SAR members searched for the occupant of a motor vehicle involved in an accident near the Abbotsford Airport.

30 May Surrey and Ridge Meadows SAR teams responded to search for a male missing near the Fraser River by the Bedford Channel.

The Surrey SAR is administered and staffed by volunteers who train and practice search, rescue and survival skills in the rugged yet beautiful British Columbia outdoors. The organization is supported by the government of British Columbia's PEP program, the Surrey Emergency Program and is funded through donations and fund-raising events.

Surrey Search and Rescue takes pride in offering a vital community service. In addition to its search and rescue activities, the Surrey SAR regularly participates in a number of community events. The search and rescue "Team" also presents public information and education programs troughout the year to schools, youth groups, and others.

Search and Rescue Teams in the Lower Mainland DO NOT solicit for funds over the telephone. If you get a phone call asking for a donation, it is not from an active SAR Group in the Greater Vancouver Area (Pemberton to Hope). If you want to make a donation to the SAR Group in your area, please contact them directly.
