20 Dec. 02 - 13 CFV and 5 Surrey SAR responded to RCMP request to locate a missing individual with Alzheimer’s. Individual was located and transported to hospital.

10 Nov. 02 - 12 Surrey, 5 Central Fraser Valley and 6 Coquitlam SAR members responded to search for a missing 90 year old male in the Centennial Park area of White Rock. Task was concluded when subject was located in good condition on a transit bus in Surrey by RCMP.

19 Oct. 02 - Coquitlam, Lions Bay, Central Fraser Valley, Kent/Harison, Mission, Chilliwack and Hope SAR responded to search the Whalley area of Surrey following report of a missing 87-year-old female suffering from dementia who wondered away from a nursing home. The female was not located and the search was suspended by RCMP pending further investigation.

24 Sept. 02 - 12 Surrey SAR members responded following a report that two boys age’s 7 and 9 had run away from their residence in the Whalley area of Surrey. Search was stood down after the children were located safe at their school.

19 Sept. 02 - 29 Surrey and CFV SAR members responded to search for an elderly male who went missing from a residence in Surrey. SAR was stood down when he was located in a restaurant in Delta.

6 Sept. 02 - 14 Surrey SAR and 7 Central Fraser Valley SAR were requested to search for a 68 yr old male missing overnight in the Surrey area. SAR members located the man sleeping on a bench in front of the Sikh Temple, he was in good condition.

29 Aug. 02 - Searchers from Mission, Chilliwack, Central Fraser Valley (Abbotsford) and Surrey responded following report of an injured hiker at Cascade Creek. Subject was located and removed from the area by basket sretcher. He was then transferred to hospital by BC Ambulance.

11 Aug. 02 - 41 SAR members from Mission, Chilliwack, Central Fraser Valley, Ridge Meadows and Surrey responded to search for an injured person in the Cascade Falls area. The person was removed from the area and passed to BCAS.

11 Aug. 02 - 14 SAR members from Ridge Meadows, Coquitlam, Surrey and Central Fraser Valley responded to a RCMP request to search for a suicidal male. The subject was located alive prior to a helicopter search of the area.

28 July 02 - On 28 Jul 02, Surrey RCMP requested Search and Rescue assistance following discovery of human remains. SAR members from Surrey, Ridge Meadows, Central Fraser Valley (Abbotsford) and Lions Bay responded and recovered remains and placed them in custody of the Coroner.

20 July 02 - Mission SAR assisted by search teams from Central Fraser Valley (Abbotsford), Ridge Meadows, Chilliwack and Surrey responded to Cascade Falls following report of an injured 33-year-old female. Reportedly had sustained a broken leg. She was located, and airlifted out of the area by helicopter long-line.

01 July 02 - 36 searchers from Coquitlam, Ridge Meadows and Surrey, assisted by an RCMP helicopter responded to Mundy Park in Coquitlam following report of a missing distraught male. Extensive air, ground and water searches failed to locate any trace of the subject and the search was stood down.

30 June 02 - 14 Central Fraser Valley and 9 Surrey SAR members responded to search for a 58-year-old visitor from Barbados. The subject had become disoriented while out walking and was unable to find their way home. SAR was stood down when it was reported a passerby had located the subject walking in the area of the Abbotsford Airport.

22 June 02 - 26 Coquitlam, 4 North Shore, 4 Ridge Meadows and 4 Surrey SAR members responded to rescue an injured hiker in the Buntzen Lake area. Helicopter flight rescue services were deployed to remove the injured party from the mountain and transfer them to BCAS for transportation to hospital.

21 June 02 - 6 Surrey SAR members responded to search for a despondent male who went missing from the Surrey Hospital. The male was located in good condition at a friend’s home.

02 June 02 - 54 SAR members from Coquitlam, North Shore, Ridge Meadows, Lions Bay, Surrey, Chilliwack and Central Fraser Valley searched for a male who failed to return home from hiking in the Buntzen Lake area. The male had fallen 40 metres when found and was long lined out of the area.

01 June 02 - 16 Surrey SAR members responded to search for an 80 yr old male with a heart condition. SAR concluded when the subject was located in a nearby shopping mall.

28 May 02 - 60 searchers from Ridge Meadows, Coquitlam, Surrey, Central Fraser Valley, Mission, North Shore and Lions Bay participated in searching for an overdue runner in Golden Ears Park. SAR members located the male in good condition on 29 May. He had become disoriented in the fog and lost his way on the trail.

25 May 02 - 22 SAR members from Central Fraser Valley, Ridge Meadows, Mission and Surrey responded following report of an 11-yr.-old girl missing in urban Abbotsford. She was located alive and well in the early morning hours at a neighbouring farm after spending the night in the bush.

28 March 02 - 18 Surrey, 6 Central Fraser Valley and 3 Coquitlam SAR members responded to assist in the search for an 85 year old male who had gone out for a walk and did not return. SAR was stood down after volunteers conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area and were unable to locate anything of interest.

15 Feb. 02 - On 15 Feb 02, RCMP requested assistance from Surrey Search and Rescue to recover a body from Nikomekl River. 14 SAR members responded and recovered the body of an adult male from the river for the Coroner.

15 Feb. 02 - 15 Surrey SAR members responded to search for a missing 18 year old female last seen in downtown White Rock. Search was stood down after RCMP reported she had been located and transported to hospital.

19 Jan. 02 - On 19 Jan 02, a fire occurred in a strip mall on Scott Road on the Surrey/Delta border. Delta Police Department and Surrey RCMP requested assistance of Surrey Search and Rescue, as the initial report indicated there was an unknown number of injuries. SAR team stood down prior to activation after it was reported the affected area consisted primarily of commercial offices rather than residential apartments. SAR participation may be required later to assist in recovery efforts. Emergency Program Coordinator, Office of the Fire Commissioner and PEP Region Manager were advised. Delta Police, Delta Fire, BC Ambulance, and Surrey RCMP attended. Police agencies continue to investigate.

6 Jan. 02 - 2 Surrey SAR, at the request of the RCMP, searched area near Centennial Park in White Rock for signs of a male who went astray from a care home on Friday Jan 4th. Surrey SAR members will resume this search on Monday, Jan 7th. Search ongoing……8 Surrey SAR members continued their search the ravines in and around the Centennial Park area of White Rock area for an elderly male missing from his care home since 04 Jan. No trace of the missing male was located and search was stood.

5 Jan. 02 - UPDATE On 05 Jan 02, RCMP requested Surrey SAR’s assistance to check out area in Sunshine Park. Central Fraser Valley SAR was requested to provide mutual aid. 16 Surrey SAR searched area on 6 Jan but nothing found. PEP SAR teams stood down.
